CCTV is the most adopted way to protect complex and big objects like: refineries, warehouses, factories etc. It has been used for a few decades now. At first expensive and unreliable cameras with electronic tubes were used (VIDICON, NEWVICON itd.) and they were operating for at most 3.000 hours, and after that tubes had to be replaced. Cameras with CCD chip, which are cheaper and more long-lasting, CCTV became more accessible and more often used in practice and in smaller objects.
